Presentation of a facsimile copy of the Lauryshava Gospel, 14th century in Ukrinform
On November 21st, at the national news agency Ukrinform, the Director of the Gorobets Publishers Anna Gorobets presented a facsimile edition of the Lauryshava Gospel of the 14th century, the original of which is stored in Krakow.
“Today we are presenting the publication of the manuscript book, of “The Lauryshava Gospel,14th century”, the original of which is kept at the National Library of Krakow, in the collection of the Library of the Princes of Czartoryski. The publication is associated not only with Ukraine but also with Belarus, where it has been stored for some time and got its name - the Lauryshava Gospel. Creation of this book is connected with the formative phase of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania when the Ukrainian language was taken as the basis of both business and written language of the Grand Duchy,”Ms. Anna said.
According to her, Ukrainian scientists and publishers have been working on the preparation of the publication since 2016, negotiating with the Polish side.
“It is not a secret that not more than 1% of manuscripts, the heritage of Kievan Rus’, are left and they are kept outside of Ukraine. These manuscripts became the pearls of book collections in Austria, France, Italy, Belarus, Russia, and they are often inaccessible,”- the publisher noted.
The publication contains scientific studies conducted by scientists of Ukraine and Poland, who connect the creation of this parchment codex, which got a new life in Lauryshav Monastery (Belarus) and from which it got its name, with the formation of Orthodoxy and Lithuanian-Russian writing of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania developed basing on the Galician-Volyn written tradition.
